PRAISE AND WORSHIP AT KCC
Dear Friends,
At KCC we enjoy God and have freedom to express our love to God through spontaneous worship. We welcome the movement of the Holy Spirit during our services and always strive to follow where He leads us as a church.
We also have a variety of worship leaders which brings a wonderful mix of songs and worship styles to the congregation and we are excited to see the development of a youth band developing in Base where the young people get together to have fellowship on Saturday evenings with each other and with God through praise and worship amongst other activities.
To be a Christian is not about following a religion rather it is about having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When we confess our sin and accept the gift of life offered by Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour we receive the gift of eternal life (Rom 10:9&10) along with all the promises and blessing described in the Bible as long as we follow Christ in humble obedience. Yet there is more, we also receive a personal invitation to become friends with God. (John 15:15) This is the most incredible thought to meditate upon. The God who created heaven and earth, invites me to be His friend. How cool is that?
The greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind. (Matthew 22:37) We worship God because we love Him and we love Him because He first loved us even though we did not deserve His love. To worship Him is the cry of my heart and He must always be the centre of everything our lives revolve around.
Matt Redman sums it up like this:
“Worship in its truest form is all about relationship. In the Westminster Shorter Catechism the chief end of man is defined as: “To glorify God and to enjoy Him for ever. First, to glorify. In other words, to respond to this wonderful God with our lives, our deeds, our thoughts, our words, and our songs. And, at the same time, to enjoy Him. As John Piper reminds us, God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.
The Lord has called us to an intimate relationship with Himself. It would be an honour to merely stand from afar and revere the King of kings with our songs of praise. Yet He has called us to something deeper: a friendship with Him.”

To worship is to have an adoring gaze. To look at Him and Him alone. To meditate on God and the works of His hands (Psalm 104:24 and 105:5). It is to have a personal relationship with Him. We therefore express our love and admiration to God flowing from a grateful heart.
Remember that first time you fell in love? You could not take your eyes of her/him, could not think of anything else, could not wait to spend time with him/her. That first love was your world and the whole world revolved around that one special person. Yo would do anything for that person. That is how we worship and how we should worship God, He should be the centre of our attention.
William Temple once wrote:
“Worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God,
To feed the mind with the truth of God,
To purge the imagination by the beauty of God,
To devote the will to the purpose of God.”

Don Williams:
“Worship money and you will become a greedy person. Worship sex and you will become a lustful person. Worship power and you will become a corrupt person. Worship Jesus and you will become a Christ-like person. We become like the object of our worship. But what does it mean to worship? The verb ‘worship’ in Hebrew means to surrender, to fall down in submission – the way we would humble ourselves before a mighty king (Psalm 95:6)
While we may fail to understand it, worship is the spiritual part of our surrender, submission and attachment to many things. The staggering truth is that we all are lured into worshipping something or someone other than the living God. This is idolatry, pure and simple. If we become what we worship, the road out of idolatry is to renounce our idols and turn to the living God. This begins with a personal, public surrender. In psychological language, we must detach. This can only come by God’s gracious intervention. Paul writes in Romans 12:1 ‘Therefore I urge you brothers in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship”

Worship can be expressed in various ways and can be quiet and reserved all the way through to exuberant loud praise. The Psalmist describes it this way:
“Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet
Praise Him with the harp and lyre
Praise Him with tambourine and dancing,
Praise Him with the strings and flute,
Praise Him with clash of cymbals,
Praise Him with resounding cymbals,
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord”
(Psalm 150)
We should worship God in the way we live our lives, daily not only on Sundays but every minute of the day, 24/7.
We worship God and express our love when we obey His commands. Samuel said that “Obedience is better than sacrifice” (1 Sam 5:22). We also worship God through sacrifice, we give up the things we know He does not approve of and we offer up our lives as living sacrifices unto Him to be pure and holy and blameless. This is our spiritual act of worship (Rom 12:1). When we do this from a heart of love it is not a chore but a delight!!
The Bible prescribes that we need to worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
When we study the scriptures we find worship flowing through the entire Bible from beginning to the end.
True worship is spiritual and we see a vivid portrayal of true worship in Rev chapters 4 and 5.
